I installed a gauge last winter and it immediately had vapor problems inside (it would fog over the face).

The problem went away over summer, but came back this winter.

Last week I pulled the gauge out and let it sit in the cold, dry air for a week with it's light bulb assembly pulled out for ventilation.

    It didn't help.

    Any ideas out there?

    Thanks.

    Greg,

The moisture is trapped inside the unit, must be a facrory defect of some sort. The moisture has no where to go you can change it from liquid to gas but it's gonna remain in the unit until you can "bleed" it. You might try drilling a very small (3/64th's or so) hole somewhere that's hard to notice and give the moisture somewhere to "vent". A hair dryer can work wonders. Once you have it purged, plug the hole back up. That ought to do the trick.

The gauge in question is an AutoMeter Z-Series Oil Pressure gauge.

Are you sure it's sealed? I thought that it could vent out the hole in back for its' light.

I have the same problem with my autometer volt gauge. It only "steams/fogs" up when there's a lot of moisture in the air. I tend to live with it but wouldn't mind knowing how this could be fixed either.

I had the same problem with my Autometer short sweep FP gauage. Luckily (well, not really)... the sender blew a huge fuel leak out of the power connection hole, and they upgraded me to a full sweep unit at no charge.

They were good to deal with. The upgrade I think was they least they could do considering I could have gone up in flames.

Same thing happened to my short sweep FP gauge (fogged up.. not exploded or anything like that.. hahaha).

    Only happened once though.

I wonder if this is common for Autometer gauges. Because it happens to my 3 gauges as well...

My Auto Meter boost gauge would fog up on real cold days but it would clear up once the car would warm up. I thought that it had something to do with the vacuum line because the other gauges were fine. Looks like a common problem.

All my autometer gauges do the same thing. EGT, and boost. the only gauge that doesn't fpg up is my J&S safeguard heheeh!!!! I don't know why it happens but it goes away as I drive the car so oh well I guess. The only thing I could tell you guys is that if it is a bad problem for you to see the gauges and what they read is to get the $$$$ expensive liquid filled gauges. But I do not see this as an alternative. Let me know what you think??? Later
